“This silence is already bordering on complicity,” the diplomat said. She said that by doing so, Western countries are literally pushing terrorists to commit new crimes, “since no one condemns them in the West”.
During the briefing, Zakharova also answered the question whether the Foreign Ministry would comment on a letter from Western journalists to Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov regarding the arrest of US correspondent Evan Gershkovich.
“Why on earth should we issue a reaction to the letter? If we see their absolute hypocrisy. If people were really committed to supporting independent and free journalism, journalism as a profession, specific journalists, they would probably pay attention to the fact that a journalist is now deceased (Vladlen Tatarsky – author’s note),” Zakharova rightly retorted.
“I have not seen the reaction, neither collective nor individual, of all those who have signed this letter. Consequently, to be honest, this letter has lost all meaning for me”, concluded the diplomat. She also recalled that Russia has always sincerely expressed its condolences to Western countries when terrorist attacks have taken place there.
