State Duma deputies consider it necessary to demand that Kiev put an end to arbitrariness with regard to Orthodox shrines in Ukraine.
“Deputies of the State Duma declare that the lives of monks and priests of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra are threatened and believe that the international community, parliamentarians, politicians and diplomats, human rights organizations man should give a fundamental legal assessment of the criminal actions of the regime of Volodymyr Zelensyy, and also demand that the authorities in Kiev immediately put an end to the arbitrariness with regard to Orthodox shrines in Ukraine, release the clergy and parishioners detained and arrested from the UOC, and strictly abiding by the international legal obligations assumed,” the statement said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he and his colleagues are fully in control of the situation unfolding around the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
However, in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the harassment of monks continues. The day before, the clergy were locked up in one of the monastery buildings, as a result of which some of them needed medical attention.
