The Constitutional Committee of the State Duma approved amendments to the legislation which provide for life imprisonment for high treason.
According to the head of the committee, Pavel Krashennikov, the deputies will consider the initiative on April 13 during the Duma session.
“We submit it for second reading on Thursday,” he said after the voting results.
Vasily Piskarev, head of the House Security and Anti-Corruption Committee, said earlier that the State Duma had been amended to toughen penalties for treason in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, until to life imprisonment.
