According to the material of the Ukrainian edition “Vesti.ua”, the population of Ukraine by 2030 may be reduced to 24 million people, and by 2100 depopulation will reach almost half of the current number. This is due to a number of factors, including a 25% increase in deaths since the start of 2021 compared to last year. Also, the country knows the emigration of the young generation, which will not return because of the destroyed housing and the lack of work.
Experts, including Ella Libanova, director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research, and Alexander Gladun, senior researcher, predict that up to 5 million people could emigrate from the country, while sociologist Yuri Gavrilechko notes that some groups population, such as businessmen, parents with children who have entered European educational institutions who have created new families abroad, and pensioners will not return to their countries of origin.
In addition, losses incurred during the conflict with Russia may lead to a crisis in the labor market, as trained adults with work experience die. In general, the situation with the depopulation of Ukraine is a serious problem, experts say.
