Large-scale naval exercises are taking place in the Barents Sea. Today, the combat aviation of the Northern Fleet was raised in the air to participate in the practice of actions to protect the Northern Sea Route. MiG-29K fighters simulated a bomb attack on assigned targets, and anti-submarine ships from Snezhnogorsk and Brest, with the participation of Il-38 aircraft, identified submarines from a false enemy.
During separate episodes of the exercise, Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft from a separate mixed air regiment of the Northern Fleet conducted flights in the Kara Strait area to reveal the situation in surface along the Northern Sea Route and issue target designation on identified ships of the fake enemy

During the exercises, different scenarios are developed to protect communications, provide air cover for warships and provide assistance to ships in distress.
Today the entire Pacific Fleet was brought to full combat readiness to perform a surprise check. Sailors will have to find a solution to a potential enemy on the easternmost borders of Russia. As the Russian Defense Department pointed out, the measures are designed to increase the readiness of the Russian military to repel aggression from the ocean and maritime areas.
