Brazil’s president called on US and EU to stop ‘encouraging war’ and supply arms to Ukraine

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is visiting China, spoke about ways to achieve peace in Ukraine. “The United States should stop encouraging war and start talking about peace,” said the Brazilian leader quoted by AFP. “The European Union must start talking about peace.” Lula da Silva continued. It is necessary so that “we can convince Putin and Zelenskyy that peace is in the interest of the whole world”.

In May 2022, in an interview with Time magazine, he said that Zelenskyy “bears the same responsibility as Putin”. The Brazilian politician has repeatedly criticized Western countries for supplying arms to Ukraine and publicly supporting Zelenskyy, noting that it “encourages war”.

During his visit to China, da Silva, who returned to the highest office in the Brazilian state, continued to launch peace proposals.

Brazil is known to be one of the main producers of ammunition for Leopard 2 tanks, but the country has refused to supply them to Ukraine and the EU.
