On the institution’s page on the social network, employees of the garden mentioned the flowering of a rare plant for our region.
According to experts, the exotic magnolia is native to North America, Asia and Indonesia. It appeared 140 million years ago and is considered the oldest flowering plant.

There were no bees when magnolias first appeared, and the plant had to adapt to beetle pollination. However, it is still cross-pollinated.

For reproduction, the flowers of the plant are closed in the evening. And the three inner petals do this so tightly that they enclose pollinating beetles until morning. At night, the magnolia ceases to produce nectar, and in the morning, densely pollen-covered beetles fly to other flowers and cross-pollinate them.
