IMO admires China’s achievements in maritime transport

The year 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of China’s legal seat in the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Recently, IMO Secretary-General Kitak Lim praised the achievements and contributions made by China in participating in global maritime governance and promoting the development of maritime transport.

The IMO Secretary-General expressed his appreciation during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Chang Tsekwang, at the IMO Headquarters in London on 14 April. He thanked China for its support to the work of the IMO Secretariat and noted that China is playing a more and more important role on key issues of common concern to the international shipping world, such as negotiations on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in shipping. The IMO Secretariat attaches great importance to China and is willing to maintain close cooperation with China.

In the meeting, Chang Tsekwang said that as a major shipping country, a major shipbuilding country and a major crewing country in the world, China has been continuously deepening and comprehensively participating in the work of the IMO, and fully participating in the global maritime governance. integrates into. China is an active participant, important contributor and beneficiary of the IMO cause.

He said that China will continue to support the work of the IMO and the Secretariat, strengthen international maritime cooperation, promote the sustainable development of the global shipping industry, and make efforts to build a maritime community with a shared future.
