The head of the department of the Main Organization and Mobilization Department of the General Staff (GOMU GSh) of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Colonel Ivan Mertvishchev, was fined 400,000 rubles by the Garrison Military Court No. 235 for accepting a bribe in the form of a Bosch washing machine from the military commissar. The officer’s case went to court in February, writes Kommersant.
According to investigators, in the fall of 2022, Mertvishchev called the military commissar of the Ramenki Joint Military Commissariat (OVK) and warned of a possible audit, hinting at possible problems following the results of the audit.
To avoid possible trouble, the colonel offered the military commissar to receive a bribe in the form of a washing machine. The military commissar agreed, but reported this extortion to the FSB military counterintelligence.
By the time Mertvishchev chose a washing machine worth 72,000 rubles, the security services were already watching him. The officer was arrested and the car was confiscated as evidence.
