On April 18, the State Duma adopted a bill according to which banks will have to inform borrowers in detail about the total cost of insurance services and insurance premiums. This information must now be prescribed in the loan agreement, indicated in the explanatory note to the bill.
Today, the remuneration of insurance intermediaries represents a significant part of the costs of insurers, but borrowers do not know it. In addition, this share paid to intermediaries reaches 30%. Now, the cost of insurance services must be fully disclosed and included directly in the loan agreement.
According to the authors of the initiative, this approach will make it possible to make an informed decision when choosing an insurer. In addition, it complies with the requirements for disclosure of the total cost of consumer credit.
The majority of Russians called the loans a “path to the debt hole”. This judgment was supported by 61% of respondents. In 2016, this opinion was shared by 62% of Russians. It should be noted that in 2020, less than 47% of citizens adhered to this position.
