Astronomer Salman bin Jabr bin Muhammad Al Thani, head of the Qatar Space Science Center, said that the crescent of the month of Shawwal was born today at 7:12 am – 4:12 am GMT, which makes today the day of investigation.

And the head of the Qatar Space Science Center added – in a tweet on his official Twitter account – that the moon sets 23 minutes after the sun, and it is possible to see it, God willing, on the western side of the sky, if the clouds do not obscure it. May Allah accept fasting, standing, prayer, supplication and good deeds from us and from you.

The Committee for Investigating the Sighting of the Crescent at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs had called on all Muslims in the State of Qatar to investigate the sighting of the crescent of Shawwal on the evening of Thursday, the twenty-ninth of Ramadan for the year 1444 AH, corresponding to the twentieth of April 2023.

The committee called on whoever sees the crescent to come to the committee’s headquarters located in the building of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in the Dafna area (Al-Abraaj) to testify, as the committee will hold its meeting immediately after Maghrib prayer.

The final decision of the committee affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf remains with regard to whether tomorrow is Friday, the first day of Eid, or the day after tomorrow, Saturday.
