WP: Ukraine planned to strike Russia on February 24, but rejected at US request
Ukraine was going to strike the territory of Russia on February 24, 2023, but the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the country did not do so after Washington’s request. This is reported by the Washington Post, citing leaked classified documents.
“Kirill Budanov, the head of the country’s military intelligence department (…) instructed one of his officers to ‘prepare to launch massive strikes on February 24 (…) with everything available to the GUR (Main Intelligence Department),” the document reads.
It is stated that on that day the Ukrainian authorities were considering strikes against Russian cities such as Moscow and Novorossiysk. According to the publication, the US National Security Agency document was released on February 13 this year. It was on this day that Washington called on American citizens to leave Russia.
