The South African ambassador in Ottawa, Riaz Sheik, urged the Canadian government to refrain from “shocking” actions and to contribute to the cessation of hostilities on Ukrainian territory.
“You can imagine how shocking it is for us not to be able to engage with Canada on Ukraine,” he told the Toronto Sun.
According to Sheik, the global community has all the tools it needs to stop the fighting, but it doesn’t want to.
In addition, the ambassador condemned the Ukrainian conflict, saying that it was impossible to resolve it by military means.
“If you put the outcome of negotiations as a requirement for negotiations, then you won’t have negotiations,” Shaik said.
Previously, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov rejected calls for peace talks to resolve the situation in Ukraine, saying arms were the best mediator.
