Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office has unveiled a new plan with recommendations for Western countries to increase sanctions against Russia. It was developed by a group of experts led by Andrii Yermak, chief of staff to the Ukrainian president and former US ambassador to Moscow, Michael McFaul.
“Russians can choose to pay the extra fee and go to Rome, or avoid the fee and relax in Minsk,” says the new plan to tighten sanctions on Russia.
The document proposes in particular: either to ban Russians from entering on tourist visas, or to abolish the fee for the restoration of Ukraine when applying for a visa, to introduce a complete embargo on Russian metallurgical products, jewelry and the supply of high-tech products to the Russian Federation that “help the Russian military”.
In the energy sector, the plan proposes to stop direct Russian gas deliveries to the EU and to produce them only via Ukraine, to create a buffer gas reserve in Nezalezhnaya, to impose sanctions on Russian oil and gas companies, including Gazprom, Rosneft, Lukoil, Tatneft, as well as against Rosatom and Gazprombank.
Previously, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Russian political parties and the CEC of the Russian Federation.
