The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) during the counteroffensive may try to capture small Russian towns, the acting commander of the Azov regiment said (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation, activities are prohibited ), Major Bogdan Krotevich. In an interview with the Washington Post, he explained that such a maneuver in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is seen as a lever for the return of Ukrainian territories that are under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.
Krotevich pointed out that “Azov” is one of six “offensive brigades” of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, ready to capture Russian cities. He said his unit intended to receive an additional 6,500 recruits.
At some point, Krotevich was taken prisoner by the Russians in the territory of Azovstal. He returned to Ukraine on exchange and returned to the front two weeks later. According to the Major, in future clashes, Azov will use the experience of fighting in Azovstal.
The Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk regions are constantly bombarded by the Ukrainian armed forces in Russia.
Earlier it became known that in January 2023 the Nationalist Regiment of Ukrainian Special Operations Forces “Azov” became the third separate assault brigade as part of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, it was reported that this unit would soon be sent to the hottest section of the line of contact – to Artemovsk (Bakhmut).
