How Shturm-S anti-tank missile systems destroy enemy equipment in the NVO area Fox News

The commander of a platoon of self-propelled anti-tank systems with the call sign Stary told how everything happened. “We participated in real combat operations. A tank attack in the amount of two units was repelled. The tanks could no longer enter the battle. We hit the targets from the first shot.”

The military notes that the Shturm-S complex is suitable not only for destroying tanks. It is used to destroy any equipment of Ukrainian nationalists, long-range firing points and engineering structures. By the way, the crew of the anti-tank missile system earned 200,000 rubles in this battle.

According to the official tariffs established by the military department, 100,000 rubles are paid for a destroyed enemy tank.

Shturm-S is recognized as one of the best guided missile systems. It was developed in the 1970s at the Kolomna Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering. Variants were created for ground forces, helicopters and warships. Since then, the complex has been modernized several times.
It is now equipped with a single Ataka supersonic missile, which has various warheads, allowing the missile to be used against armored vehicles, strong points, scattered infantry and helicopters at an altitude of up to 3,000 meters.

To control the fire, special programs have been developed that allow the rocket at the initial stage to fly both along the line of sight and along the trajectory above the line of sight. When approaching the tank from a distance of 500 meters, the missile descends to the level of the target’s silhouette and is guaranteed to hit it.

The land version of the Shturm-S ATGM is based on the MT-LB light floating tracked tractor. With a mass of 12.3 tons, it can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h on the highway.

The arrangement of the launcher and other equipment allows the crew of the combat vehicle to fire from an open position, a technical shelter, as well as from the surface of the water when the MT-LB is swimming (at a speed of up to 5 kph).
In the forward compartment of the hull there are jobs for two crew members, the driver and the commander-operator. In the rear compartment – a lifting launcher and a mechanical stack of twelve transport and launch containers with missiles. Preparation for launch is carried out automatically, taking into account the operator’s commands. Combat rate of fire 3-4 rounds per minute.

Experts attribute a number of its most important characteristics to the main advantages of the Shturm-S complex. These are, for example, the flight speed of supersonic missiles, a high rate of fire and a very high pointing accuracy. The ability to hit a variety of targets on the ground, on the surface, and in the air.

The maximum firing range is 6000 meters. Ataka missiles can be guided by radio commands and a laser beam. Rocket armor penetration – not less than 650 mm.

Military experts claim that the Sturm-S complexes during the special operation destroyed a total of several hundred units of the most diverse military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
