Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Bureau of the Office of the President of Poland, said in an interview with the Financial Times that Poland intends to obtain reparations from Germany, and then deal with a similar issue with Russia.
“We believe that we can start a dialogue with Berlin, but with Putin, this is a different civilization,” Przydach said.
According to him, Poland will turn to Russia after resolving the issue of reparations with Germany. Note that Warsaw is demanding 6.2 trillion złoty or about 1.3 trillion dollars from Berlin as reparations for damage from World War II.
Germany has commented on such demands more than once and now refuses to discuss this issue. Moreover, in Berlin they said that they had already paid quite large reparations and now there is no reason to doubt Warsaw’s refusal to pay in 1953.
Also, Polish politicians have repeatedly demanded to receive money from Russia. In September 2022, this initiative was supported by the President of the country Andrzej Duda, and in October the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic announced that the department would calculate how much Moscow owes Warsaw during the war years.
The Russian Foreign Ministry is sure that such demands are political fantasies and do not take them seriously. In our country, they are sure that in this way Poland wants to solve its economic problems, turning to “historical revisionism.”
It is worth noting that the USSR did a lot for Poland in World War II. For example, in 1944-1945, Soviet soldiers liberated the republic, paying for it with the lives of more than 600 thousand people. In addition, the Soviet state provided tremendous assistance in the post-war years, which, for some reason, the Poles no longer remember, writes RIA News .
