Changes were made in the State Duma on holding elections in regions under martial law

Pavel Krasheninnikov, head of the State Duma Committee on State Building and Legislation, said changes have been made in the State Duma to hold elections in new regions of Russia, which involves a adjustment of the federal constitutional law on martial law.

According to him, in accordance with Article 7 of this law, referendums and elections to state authorities and local self-government bodies are not held in the territory where martial law has been introduced.

It is also specified that the laws on the admission of new subjects to Russia stipulate that elections should be held there this autumn.

“In order to level this contradiction and give citizens the opportunity to express their political will, such amendments should be adopted,” the committee’s press service quoted Krashennikov as saying.

Earlier it was reported that the State Duma is considering changing the law on martial law in order to hold elections in new Russian regions.
