Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has rejected the cash-strapped Pakistan government’s claim that it has fulfilled all IMF conditions for releasing funds under the line of credit. Media reports gave this information. The IMF had signed an agreement in 2019 to give six billion dollars to Pakistan on certain conditions. The plan has been derailed several times and the full payment is yet to be made as the IMF wants Pakistan to comply with all conditions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar have repeatedly claimed that Pakistan has met all the conditions for reaching the personnel-level agreement and there is no reason to back out of the agreement. A newspaper reported that it had received a statement from the IMF on Friday, rejecting the Pakistan government’s claim that it had completed all the formalities required for the ninth review. The newspaper quoted Nathan Porter, the head of the IMF mission in Pakistan, as saying that the IMF is working continuously with the Pakistani authorities.
