Official sources confirmed the shooting incident at the car of Turkish Ambassador to Sudan Ismail Cubanoglu on Saturday, noting that the vehicle was damaged.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told reporters in Antalya, in the south of the country: “No one was injured as a result of the damage to the car, and embassy staff were transferred in a safer area.
Cavusoglu added, “With the recommendation of the transitional government and the Sudanese army, we have decided to temporarily move our embassy from Khartoum to Port Sudan for security reasons.”
The two sides to the conflict in Sudan, the military and the Rapid Support Forces, have traded accusations over the incident.
During 3 weeks of conflict, diplomatic headquarters and missions in Sudan have been the target of attacks and looting, condemned by the international community.
The conflict continues in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has killed hundreds and caused tens of thousands to flee abroad, while representatives of the two parties meet in Jeddah on Saturday to talks.
