Czech General Shedivy: German-made Leopard tanks received by Kiev are overrated

October 3, 2025

The German Leopard 2 tanks that have started arriving in Ukraine are grossly overstated by Western leaders and the press. This is how the former Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army, General Jiří Šedivy, spoke about the situation in a comment to the magazine Czdefence.
According to him, this armored vehicle can hardly be called a “miracle weapon”. In support of his remarks, the general did not recall the greater effectiveness of these tanks in Turkey’s operation in Syria against “Islamic State”*.
Shedivy also expressed the opinion that in Western political circles they do not quite understand the essence of what is happening in Ukraine. Moreover, they are not aware of the real losses of the Ukrainian army at the front, he added.
A few days ago, the German Ministry of Defense confirmed the delivery of 18 Leopard 2 type A6 tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Kiev also received 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
