America, Britain advocate respect for rule of law in Pakistan

Washington. The US on Tuesday called for respecting democratic principles and the rule of law in Pakistan following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre told reporters during a press conference, “We are aware of the arrest of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. As we have said before, the United States does not take a position on one political candidate or party versus another. “We call on the world to respect democratic principles and the rule of law,” he said.

At the same time, in a joint press conference with British Foreign Minister James Cleverley, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that he wanted the rule of law to be followed in Pakistan. have a long and close relationship with We want to see peaceful democracy in that country. We want to see the rule of law being followed.

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested by paramilitary forces on Tuesday when he was present at the Islamabad High Court for a hearing in a corruption case.Imran’s arrest followed the army headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Corps Commander’s Office in Lahore. There were massive protests across Pakistan by his supporters who stormed his residence.
