Killed in a suicide bombing at a checkpoint in northwest Pakistan

Army and security officials said a suicide car bomber targeted a security checkpoint in the northwest of the country on Wednesday, killing two soldiers, a policeman and a civilian.

The attack took place, the second attack to hit the country in a few days, in the region of North Waziristan, on the border with Afghanistan.

Local police chief Rahmat Khan said the blast injured a number of civilians. The military also confirmed in a statement the explosion and the number of casualties.

He said the attacker wanted to target a nearby public gathering, but security forces prevented a major disaster by intercepting his car.

Meanwhile, security forces killed six militants in a raid on their hideout in South Waziristan, the army said on Wednesday.

The army gave no details of the dead, but such operations are usually carried out against the Pakistani Taliban.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani Taliban today announced responsibility for an attack that took place yesterday and targeted an oil and gas facility in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, killing 4 members security forces and two guards.
