For the last 30 months, that is, for the last two and a half years, the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, adjacent to the LoC, have turned into a battleground. This war has claimed the lives of 26 soldiers and nine civilians. In both the districts, which have become a noose around the neck of the army, it is a matter of concern that despite all its efforts, local citizens have started turning to militancy. In both these districts, it is being told that the fight is with an invisible enemy. This enemy is not only the local OGWs, being near the LoC, there are also foreign nationals coming from the other side, who could not be tracked.
While all the terrorists involved in terrorist attacks and massacre incidents are currently out of reach. Due to continuous targeting of army by terrorists in both these districts, the army has become troubled to maintain the morale of the soldiers. Like the two attacks in October 2021 in which nine soldiers were killed, this time the terrorists who killed 10 soldiers again within 17 days are said to be well-acquainted with the area, equipped with sniper rifles and sophisticated weapons.
According to an official, it is because of the local support that he is able to complete the 50-60 kilometer journey from Poonch’s Bhata Dhunian area to Rajouri’s Kadi area. The death of 10 soldiers at the hands of terrorists in the last 17 days was not the first incident in these twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, but after the removal of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, terrorists turned towards these twin districts in Kashmir. Earlier, on 11 October 2020, five soldiers were killed in Chamret area of Surankot. After this attack, the same terrorist group carried out another ambush on the soldiers in Bhatta Durai area of Poonch, in which four soldiers were martyred. During the ongoing operation in the densely forested area of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces killed a terrorist on Saturday, while another terrorist is likely to be injured. The Army informed that during the ongoing operation in Rajouri, terrorists killed five army personnel and injured a Major rank officer on Friday. After this incident, now the army has started Operation Trinetra.
During the search operation, more than 280 people have been detained for questioning in connection with the incident. In fact, for the success of operations like Operation Trinetra, it is necessary that informers are taken, intelligence and maximum cooperation of the local people is taken.
