Linda Iaccarino, former director of sales at NBCUniversal, will become the new CEO of Twitter. This was announced on his Twitter businessman Elon Musk, the owner of the social network.
“Linda will primarily focus on business operations, while I will focus on product design and new technologies,” the businessman explained. The fact that he is actively looking for a replacement at the head of the company became known at the end of 2022.
Musk initially said his tenure as the social network’s CEO would be temporary when he disbanded the board in November 2022 and took sole leadership of the company. He claimed he hoped to “eventually find someone else to run Twitter”, but quickly tweeted that he “didn’t have a successor yet”. “It’s not about finding a CEO. The question is to find a CEO who can bring Twitter to life,” he explained.
On Dec. 18, Musk conducted a poll of Twitter users, asking them to decide whether he should stay on as the company’s CEO or leave. Launching the vote, he promised to follow the opinion of the majority. More than half of the 17.5 million participants in the survey voted for the businessman to leave the post of head of the social network.
After buying a stake in Twitter, Musk not only dissolved the board, but also fired several senior executives and about half of the employees. Soon, about 1,000 employees of the company asked for their resignation. The billionaire also launched, rolled back and then restarted an account verification system that charges an $8 fee for assigning a “blue tick” (an account token whose identity is verified as the owner). The principle of operation of this function had to be reviewed after many fake accounts were able to obtain a “blue tick” thanks to a paid verification service.
Additionally, Musk announced an “amnesty” for previously blocked accounts (in particular, he unblocked Donald Trump’s account), and in April 2023 he removed restrictions from accounts of Russian officials and departments.
