Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Irina Yarovaya offers to discuss the introduction of criminal liability for Russophobia in Russia, the DEITA.RU news agency reports with reference to Vedomosti.
The legislator believes that Russophobia, which is “produced mainly by officials abroad”, is a danger to the whole world and constitutes an attack on state security. She also notes that introducing criminal liability for Russophobia is a challenge for science.
Support for this initiative was expressed by the head of the Council to the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society and human rights, Valery Fadeev, who believes that criminal proceedings should be initiated against specific individuals who spread Russophobia. He called the issue of defining Russophobia “subtle” and proposed introducing an appropriate article on Russophobia into the Criminal Code. Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova is also advocating for a similar article at the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.
