US Senate approves the appointment of Geeta Rao Gupta

Washington: The US Senate has confirmed the appointment of Indian-American Geeta Rao Gupta as ‘Ambassador at Large’ for global issues related to women in the State Department. The ministry tweeted on Friday that it was deeply impressed by Gupta’s efforts to promote the rights of women and girls through US foreign policy. Gupta’s nomination was confirmed by a vote of 51-47 in the US Senate earlier this week.

According to Gupta, there are many inequalities and stigmas around the world that women face and this prevents them from fully participating in the economy. She said last year, she is facing threats related to her security. They also fear violence on a daily basis, and this makes them unstable.
