The Pentagon is investigating the leak of classified documents on the conflict in Ukraine, which contained a description of the state of Ukrainian troops. The American newspaper The New York Times writes about this, referring to a representative of the military department.
According to the publication, the documents dated early March this year also contain information about plans by Washington and the North Atlantic bloc to strengthen the Ukrainian military. The authors of the publication claim that they would be distributed by Russian pro-government Telegram channels. It is stated that one of the documents labeled “top secret” provides information on “the state of the conflict as of March 1”.
Other documents provide a brief description of 12 emerging Ukrainian nationalist brigades. According to this data, nine of them are trained and supplied by the United States and NATO. At the same time, it should be noted that six of the nine such brigades will be ready by March 31, and the rest by April 30. Additionally, more than 250 tanks and 350 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) are required for these formations.
Earlier it became known that the US Department of Defense will soon begin training Ukrainian troops to use M1A1 Abrams tanks in combat. So far, this process has not yet started, reports TASS, citing a senior Pentagon official. He noted that the training had not been carried out, because the US military department had not yet received the necessary equipment.
