Zoonomia experiment for 20 years explained the fundamental difference between humans and animals

May 13, 2023

The Zoonomia project, a twenty-year effort by researchers around the world to decipher the genomes of various animals and compare them with human DNA, has completed its work.

By studying what was common to all life forms, scientists were able to better understand the differences that make us unique people. Although the human genome is large, it has been difficult for researchers to study its mechanisms due to its scale.

Scientists have identified regions of the human genome associated with brain development. These “Human Accelerated Development Zones” (HARs) first appeared in humans about a million years ago, but they are also found in higher primates such as chimpanzees and gorillas.

A million years ago, a DNA restructuring took place, as a result of which the genes responsible for brain development were next to the HAR enhancers.
