Islamabad: Banker, boxer and mother of two Naila Kiyani conquered Mount Everest on Sunday. With this, she has become the second Pakistani woman to hoist the flag of her country on the highest peak in the world. According to reports, she along with Pasang Temba Sherpa reached the height of 8,849 meters at 8.02 am on Sunday. She has also become the first non-Nepali climber to reach the summit of Everest. Sameena Baig was the first female mountaineer from Pakistan to scale Everest in 2013.
Naila Kiyani is the only Pakistani woman to climb five mountains above eight meters in height, which now includes Mount Everest, within two years. Earlier he had climbed Annapurna K2, Gasherbrum 1 and 2 in Nepal. She is now aiming to scale the 8,516-metre Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain on her trip to Nepal. Naila was among two Pakistani climbers who were rescued last month while on their way to Mount Annapurna.
Shehroze Kashif, the world’s youngest mountaineer, was accompanying him on the summit of the 8,091-metre-high peak in Nepal. Two climbers were rescued a day after reaching the top of the mountain after their descent was interrupted by bad weather. With her ascent of Annapurna, Kiyani became the first woman from South Asia to achieve the feat, according to Geo News.
