This year marks the 76th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. In this regard, several bright “comebacks” are expected at the forum – Harrison Ford will present the fifth and his last film about Indiana Jones, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro will bring a new film “The Killers of the Flower Moon” for the first time in 40 years, etc In this review we will talk about the most anticipated films on the French Riviera this year.

Director, actress and co-writer Maiwenn stars in this historical drama. On screen, she will appear as a talented courtesan, outraged at the measured life of Versailles after she becomes the mistress of Louis XV (Johnny Depp). According to Maivenn, the film turned out to be genuinely French, and Depp’s expressive silence was a prerequisite for its creation.

Hosted in a fictional desert town, the 1955 convention of young astronomers is the setting for Wes Anderson’s new stellar extravaganza. He styled the film like the sci-fi opuses of the time, but he did it, as always, with the originality that is inherent in it. The main “romantic” roles were played by Jason Schwartzman and Scarlett Johansson, the company on the set was Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks and Bryan Cranston.

Julianne Moore plays a woman married to a much younger man (Charles Melton) in this intriguing romantic drama from Todd Haynes. A few years earlier, their love story was actively discussed in the tabloids. Natalie Portman has been given the role of playing Moore on screen, so she sits close to the couple to watch her, bringing dissonance to the established status quo.

“Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Fate”

The fifth film about the tireless archaeologist will see 80-year-old Harrison Ford walk the steps of the Palais des Festivals on May 18. Steven Spielberg was not directing this time, replaced by James Mangold (Walk the Line). The action of the painting will take place in the middle of the last century, during the space race. Indy discovers that the US government has asked for help from former Nazis. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will appear on screen as Jones’ desperate goddaughter. The film’s budget was $300 million.

Scorsese. Di Caprio. From Niro. It’s odd that this glorious trimviurate hasn’t worked together before (although the actors did star in the 1993 drama This Boy’s Life). The running time of the new film is three minutes shorter than Scorsese’s previous film The Irishman (2019) and is around three and a half hours. The plot of this drama, based on real events, takes place in the 20s of the last century in Oklahoma. Local Osage Indians are dying one by one under mysterious circumstances after vast deposits of oil are discovered on their land. The case is taken up by the newly formed FBI.
