Thane. Police in Maharashtra’s Thane city have arrested four accused, including a woman, for luring a shopkeeper and extorting Rs 6.9 lakh from him. He told that the accused woman had reached the glasses shop located in Srinagar area in September last year, after which she had befriended the owner of the shop.
A police spokesperson said in a release that the woman extorted some money by winning the shopkeeper’s sympathy in words. According to the release, on April 1, 2023, the accused woman called the shopkeeper to the Thane check naka on the pretext of some work and Asked for her help in buying clothes. According to the release, when the shopkeeper was taking the woman to a nearby shop on his scooter, her husband saw the two together.
According to the police, after this the woman’s husband along with two other youths threatened the shopkeeper to put pictures of him and his wife on social media. According to a police officer, the husband of the accused woman also threatened the shopkeeper that He will file a police complaint against her for molesting his wife.
The officer said that the accused allegedly extorted a total of Rs 6.9 lakh from the shopkeeper by blackmailing him from time to time. The woman’s husband demanded Rs 50,000 more from the shopkeeper, following which she lodged a police complaint on Saturday, he said. According to the official, the Sri Nagar police laid a trap and arrested the four accused on Sunday. A case has been registered for blackmailing and extorting money from him and investigation is on.
