Siddaramaiah, the master of Karnataka politics

– Published on:

Politics is another name for untowardness. Siddaramaiah’s experience came in handy. Siddaramaiah, who has always been measured, is going to take oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the second time. Siddaramaiah, who started politics with small steps, reached the assembly for the first time in 1983 by contesting elections from the Bharatiya Lok Dal party.

Siddaramaiah gradually made a place in the Congress party. He was such a place that the party high command could not see anyone else like him. Although at one time he was the party president of the Janata Dal (from 1999 to 2004) and a staunch opponent of the Congress. Now where does politics care more about principles. When HD Deve Gowda got spoiled and distance increased, he left Janata Dal Secular and joined Congress. It has only been 15 years.

Exactly five years after that, ie in 2013, the Congress party handed over the state’s command to Siddaramaiah. After more than three decades, the people of the state got such a Chief Minister who remained on the chair continuously for the next five years. This shows that Siddaramaiah is Congress’s choice as well as its weakness. The main reason for this is that they have a strong hold in the rural areas of Karnataka. Image is clear.

This was the reason why he completed his tenure as the Chief Minister of Karnataka amid all the upheavals. He took charge of the state till 2018. After a long time, the people of Karnataka saw a politician sitting on the chief minister’s chair continuously for five years.

Siddaramaiah is considered a rebel politician. Wherever they were, their rebellious attitude kept rising. The people of Karnataka probably like this style of his. It is a coincidence that he never faced heavy opposition. While in government, some of his decisions were definitely opposed, but there was no significant decrease in his popularity. / Brajesh

Karnataka Congress state president DK Shivakumar emerged as his rival in the 2023 assembly elections, but the high command approved Siddaramaiah’s name and restricted DK Shivakumar to the post of deputy chief minister.

Siddaramaiah is expert in handling electoral politics as well as governance. In 1985, he was a minister in the Ramakrishna Hegde government of the Janata Party. Then he impressed people with his working style. He has contested 12 elections so far and has won nine.

Siddaramaiah was born on August 10, 1948 in Siddaramahundi village of Mysore district. He comes from a farmer family. He holds a B.Sc degree from the University of Mysore. Parents wanted Siddaramaiah to become a doctor, but he preferred to become a lawyer by studying LLB from Mysore University itself. Entered politics in the year 1978. That journey continues even today.
