India’s veteran Sharath Kamal made a winning debut at the World Table Tennis Championships here on Sunday. The player, ranked 56 in the world, defeated 170th ranked Austrian David Serdaroglu 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6 in the first round match.
In the singles competition, other Indian players G Sathiyan and Manika Batra will also start their campaign on Sunday. Manush Shah and Harmeet Desai had lost their opening matches on Saturday.
Sreeja Akula cruised into the second round with an opening round win against Italy’s Nicole Aralia.
