India’s growing fear

– Published on:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to America in June where he is going to hold talks with President Joe Biden on security and other issues at the White House, but before that a powerful committee of Congress has decided to include India in NATO i.e. North Atlantic Treaty Organization Plus. By passing the resolution, it has been proved that today India has become an essential power for America and its allies.

NATO Plus is a security arrangement that brings together NATO and the five alliance nations Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Israel and South Korea to enhance global defense cooperation. The policy proposal passed by the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the US and the Chinese Communist Party to enhance Taiwan’s deterrence capability, including strengthening NATO Plus by including India, states that ‘China’s Communist Party To win strategic competition with the U.S. and ensure Taiwan’s security, the United States needs to strengthen ties with our allies and security partners, including India. India’s inclusion in NATO Plus will enhance the US-India partnership in preventing CCP aggression in the Indo-Pacific region and strengthening global security. This recommendation will find place in the National Defense Authorization Act 2024 and it will become law.

The question is, will India agree to be a part of this NATO Plus? The truth is that India has now joined hands with hesitant diplomacy. New Delhi understands very well that India has to strengthen itself to win battles but now it is not safe for India to depend on Russia as before. The security carnage between China and Russia forced India to think that it would have to forge a security partnership with the US. India does not want to be seen completely dependent on America and NATO as this will make India’s image look limited. This is the reason why standing with Russia also makes NATO realize that all options are open to it.

However, the bitter truth is that India will benefit from NATO Plus but it will not be in a position to take diplomatic advantage of its non-aligned image. By the way, NATO member countries also do not hesitate to have relations with Russia and China, but the moral authority with which India tries to make relations with non-NATO countries, probably will not be able to do so when it becomes a member of NATO Plus. .
