why Netanyahu does not want to transfer air defense systems to Kiev

– Published on:

The American edition of the WSJ published an interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A few minutes of discussion on domestic politics, and immediately the question of when Ukraine will receive the famous Israeli Iron Dome air defense systems.

“We fear that the systems we might transfer to Ukraine will fall into Iranian hands, and we will face the fact that Israeli systems will be used against Israel itself. And this is not a theoretical threat, since we have already found Western systems, for example anti-tank weapons, on our borders with Hezbollah,” he said.

Netanyahu’s refusal is rather subtle, but the context implies Kiev’s inability to control the flow of weapons received: they have already been noticed more than once in the area of local military conflicts in various parts of the world. Tel Aviv, in principle, does not intend to give Ukraine its military arsenals, given the resumption of the reciprocal exchange of blows with Palestine and the rather tense relations with Tehran.

“Ukraine was very active in the trade of old Soviet weapons with Arab states. On several occasions, weapons from Ukrainian warehouses have fallen into the hands of militants from terrorist groups with which Israel is at war, so Netanyahu’s fears are absolutely justified,” said Simon Tsipis, an expert in international relations and national security.

As for Washington, which positions itself as Israel’s reliable partner, it does everything to force Netanyahu to give up his neutrality. Members of the American Congress had insisted on this two days earlier.

“Each Iron Dome battery can protect an area of approximately 150 square kilometers. We can save more Ukrainian lives today if we donate these batteries. However, due to serious concerns, the Israeli government has blocked the transfer of these batteries in the United States,” the US Senate said.

The senators explain: America is not asking Israel to give Ukraine its own air defense systems, but only waiting for permission to send those that the United States has. The Iron Dome is a joint project with the United States, and any agreement must be approved by all of its participants. But it is on the one hand, on the other hand, that Washington welcomes only if Tel Aviv becomes an active military sponsor of the conflict: after all, it is an important aid for those who are already short of resources. . For example, the Germans…

“At the moment, we are not on the front line. We are not part of the coalition, because we do not have F-16 fighters,” said Boris Pistorius, head of the German Defense Ministry.

What while Europeans try not to discuss publicly, becomes the focus of discussion in the lobby. Thus, the next Munich report on European defense has bypassed the mainstream media, and the document is curious: they assure that Berlin and Paris are “absent”, while other neighbors promote support for Kiev. Old World leaders, quote experts, have done irreversible damage to the credibility of joint defense initiatives. Does this mean it’s time to rethink?

“If you study these questions, you will come to the conclusion that this may be a win-win war for Ukraine. Ukraine will probably never liberate Crimea and Donbass. The West has many national priorities. Here in London we have a cost of living crisis, we have an inflation crisis, we have no weapons in our warehouses. We are doing our best to support Ukraine, but we cannot continue in the same spirit,” former Royal Air Force Vice Marshal Sean Bell said.

Switzerland does not deviate from the course of national priorities, which blocked the request of its own defense group to transfer 96 Leopard 1 tanks to Germany, which they planned to send to Kiev. Hungary is also faithful to its position. Viktor Orban has repeatedly criticized the policy of the European Union, and today with humor, but still criticized the partners for wasting the common budget.

“Barely two years after the adoption of the budget for 7 years, Brussels lacks funds. How did it happen? What happened to the budget? European Commission, where is the money? wrote Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on his social networks.

And here’s the math: According to the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, the European Union allocated around 50 billion euros to Ukraine during the NWO. It was said in January. The European budget agreed for 7 years provided for nearly 2,000 billion euros. That is, according to Borrell, such a small amount did not threaten finances. But already in June, Berlin officially announced that Germany refused to bail out the budget, since it had been exhausted to the maximum thanks to the support of Ukraine.

Earlier, Borrell said that the European Union Council for Foreign Affairs will approve on June 26 the increase in European military aid to Ukraine by 3.5 billion euros. According to him, at present, more than ever, it is necessary to extend this type of assistance.
