The world’s fastest motor bike racing competition Moto GP is going to be held in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh later this year. Sports and Youth Welfare Department of Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary Navneet Sehgal It says that by organizing such big and well-known competitions, Uttar Pradesh will not only emerge as a strong brand, but investment will increase here and infrastructure facilities will also increase. How helpful are sports competitions in establishing the state as a brand?
See, big sports competitions not only in the country but in the whole world make our state’s reputation and prestige. Brand UP becomes stronger when a big and famous competition is organized. Whether it is successful organization of IPL matches or Khelo India events, Uttar Pradesh has emerged stronger as a brand from all these. If there is a big event, the economy accelerates and new types of jobs are also created. If you look at some of the big programs that have taken place recently, you will know how due to them infrastructure facilities have increased and employment has also increased. Sports events have a separate economy and a large area benefits from it.
Are sports competitions also helpful in increasing investment?
Absolutely. Last week itself, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the organization of Moto GP bike racing in the state. For the first time this bike racing is leaving Europe and taking place in another country. Now coming out of Europe for the first time its Uttar Pradesh is a big deal. Its event is likely to generate economic activity worth at least Rs 1,000 crore in the state, in which at least 5,000 people will get employment. The recently concluded Khelo India Games have also boosted economic activities. Right now the matches of the Cricket World Cup are also to be held in Uttar Pradesh.

How will organizing Moto GP affect the NCR region?
Every sector from tourism to real estate will make a difference. A few years back, when Formula One was held in Greater Noida, real estate in the entire area picked up pace. It is a different matter that due to some reasons this competition could not go ahead. But Moto GP will be held every year as an annual event. This will once again give impetus to real estate projects in the entire NCR region. Because of this, the hospitality industry has become isolated from now on. More or less all major hotels in NCR are fully booked on the dates of Moto GP event. Even where it has not happened, the rents have increased a lot.

Will it have any impact on the target of trillion dollar economy?
If every sector contributes its own share then this target can be easily achieved. To achieve this target, the state needs huge investment and industrial and economic activities. I think that if Uttar Pradesh becomes a hub of sports, then almost every industry from sports goods to hotels, guest houses and real estate will be affected. If business increases, it will affect the entire economy.
