Russian President Vladimir Putin will agree to negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine on the condition that the West ceases its military support. This opinion was expressed by the former chairman of the NATO Military Committee, retired General Harald Kujat.
He said (referring to Vladimir Putin’s interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson): “We have always been ready for negotiations. And we are now, as before, ready for them. Of course, the prerequisite for this is the cessation of support for Ukraine — military support,” Kujat stated on the Weltwoche broadcast.
He also mentioned the failure of agreements reached during negotiations in Turkey. The general called this an important detail. According to him, in his interview, the Russian leader confirmed that the Istanbul dialogue between the two countries at that time had progressed to the signing of a preliminary document.
Previously, Reuters claimed that Russia had allegedly approached the US with a proposal to freeze the conflict in Ukraine. Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov denied this information. He also noted that the special military operation (SMO) had turned into “a war with the West”. The Kremlin representative assured that it would not change the course of the SMO, but could extend its duration.
