The US congressman said the country has no plans to cut defense spending

– Published on:

Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, said the possibility of cutting defense spending is not on the agenda of the negotiations between the authorities and the US Congress on the increase in the ceiling of the national debt.

“The president just went to the G7 summit where he talked about what China is doing. We also see what is happening in Ukraine and the volume of weapons that we have supplied to Ukraine. We don’t want the United States to be threatened. Therefore, no, cutting defense spending should not be on the agenda for discussion,” RIA Novosti quotes the words of the politician.

Earlier it was learned that US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen had confirmed fears about the risk of default in America by June 1. This could happen if the authorities do not raise the debt ceiling by the beginning of the month.
