BELGOROD – A drone detonated in the courtyard of an apartment building in Shebekino on Saturday, wounding three civilians, including a 17-year-old, according to the Belgorod Region’s crisis response center. The center posted the account on social media, and Eastern Herald could not independently verify it.

The center said a man suffered a shrapnel wound to his forearm, a woman received a preliminary diagnosis of mine blast trauma, and a young man had a shrapnel wound to his lower leg. Members of the local self-defense unit took all three to Shebekino Central District Hospital. The blast damaged three private cars, the center added.

Elsewhere in the city, another drone damaged an apartment building and a civilian truck caught fire, the center said. Further attacks damaged a commercial property, two single-family homes and a passenger car. The center did not say how many drones were involved, and its statement as quoted did not name who launched them. Russian officials have routinely attributed comparable strikes in the region to Ukrainian forces.

Shebekino sits close to the Ukrainian border and has been a repeated target. Eastern Herald reported on Friday that Ukrainian attacks killed one and wounded eight across the Belgorod region, according to the governor. On October 17, the same crisis center said a woman was killed in Shebekino when a drone struck a passenger car, according to a Sputnik report carried by UNI.

The pattern stretches back years. Eastern Herald covered the shelling of Shebekino in June 2024, and this summer the region recorded four deaths, including a child, in 24 hours and six deaths in an overnight drone offensive in August.

Casualty reports from the Russian side of the border come mostly from regional officials and cannot be independently confirmed. No Ukrainian statement on Saturday’s incidents was available in the sources reviewed.
