Roulette: Different Options for Playing the Game

Roulette is one of the most iconic games in the casino world. The red and black wheel has become an iconic staple of gambling iconography, with plenty of establishments using it as a symbol of their own platform. What many don't realize is that there are several options for playing roulette.

In 2024, there are different platforms for gambling. However, not all platforms feature the same games. That is why, in this article, we would like to go over the different roulette playing options, and give you some tips on how to find the best one.

Digital Roulette

There is no denying that digital roulette, more commonly called online roulette, isn't as popular as live gambling. However, that doesn't mean that people don't like to play it at all. In fact, before live roulette became one of the most popular games at web casinos, online roulette dominated these sites, even competing with the success of online slots. Anyone who knows about the history of slots, knows that is an impressive feat.

Digital roulette is one of the simplest games you can ever come across. The wheel operates on a random number generator software, which results in 100% random outcomes, just like you would expect at an actual land-based casino. All the players have to do is spin the wheel, and hope for the best. It may not be as exciting as a living dealer roulette game, but it can be quite fun for those who enjoy it.

Live Roulette

One of the most popular ways to play roulette in the 21st century is online. As we said before though, virtual roulette is largely overshadowed by the live option. People seem to prefer playing face-to-face with a living, human dealer. This is where live roulette comes in, a form of gambling based around the streaming media, so popular in the 21st century.

Live roulette is a platform that incorporates streaming technology, in order to broadcast a human dealer to an audience participating in a voice or text live chat. The dealer is standing in front of, or behind a roulette wheel. They then spin the wheel, throw the ball, and the players place wagers from the chat. If they get it right, victory is theirs.

Land-based Roulette

Finally, we should address land-based roulette. After all, the game remains a staple of casino establishments around the world. It is important to note that, at online casinos, you can choose the version of roulette you want to play. However, in land-based casinos, you take what you can get. Which is why it is important to know the difference between the two main versions of the game:

    • American: 18 red fields, 18 black fields, two green fields.
    • European: 18 red fields, 18 black fields, one green field.

The difference is self-explanatory. European roulette lacks the extra green field marked by a double zero that American roulette features. Many might not think this makes a big difference. However, that extra field contributes greatly to a game's house edge, making American roulette a lot more difficult than the European predecessor.
