Ukrainian Foreign Ministry urged to convene UN Security Council over plans to deploy Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus

October 4, 2025

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called a meeting of the UN Security Council (SC) due to information received about Russia’s plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) on the territory of Belarus.

“We demand the immediate convening of an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council for this purpose,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry noted that such statements about the intention to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in the Republic of Belarus are a provocative step.

President Vladimir Putin has announced his intention to place weapons of mass destruction on the territory of Belarus, stressing that Minsk has long demanded this. He clarified that such actions would be carried out without violating international obligations.
