District court suggests termination of Loveparade trial

Duisburg (TEH) – The district court of Duisburg has proposed the termination of the Loveparade criminal trial because of the corona crisis. This would end the process without judgment. The parties to the proceedings are to comment by April 20, and the court said that due to the dynamic development of the corona pandemic, it was not foreseeable when and how the currently interrupted negotiations could be continued There was such a large crowd at the only entrance and exit to the event site that 21 people were crushed and at least 652 injured. Three organizers of Lopavent are charged with negligent homicide and assault, the main trial had started in December 2017.

The last negotiation took place on March 4, 2020. It was the 183th day of the trial. Just last week, the court announced an interruption of indefinite duration because of the Corona crisis. In the event of an appointment, the chamber wants to summarize its findings on the events around the Loveparade 2010 in a written decision and present its content in a temporary trial.
