On the instructions of the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, Dr. Riyad Al-Maliki summoned the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Amal Gado, Austria’s representative to the State of Palestine, Astrid Finn, in the morning of Monday, May 18th, 2020 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the city of Ramallah.

This is arranged in protest against the legal observations recently submitted by the Austrian government to the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court on the jurisdiction of the Criminal Court on the regions of the State of Palestine.

In its seventh item, Austria indicated that the Republic of Austria did not recognize Palestine as a sovereign state, and did not establish diplomatic relations with it at the bilateral level.

Jadu expressed the Palestinian leadership’s dissatisfaction with this position, and that what was stated in this message, constitutes a dangerous precedent in bilateral relations with Austria, knowing that there are diplomatic relations between the two countries, especially since Austria raised the Palestinian representation to the level of the Palestine Mission in 2011.

Jaddou demanded the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides an official explanation of these observations.
