Dentist sentenced to 12 years for pulling out a tooth while using an electric skateboard

He had 40 charges against him, including extracting teeth without permission from patients, fraud in the health care program, and illegal practice of medicine.

Seth Lookhart, a dentist from Alaska (USA), has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for several crimes, among which are: extracting a tooth from an unconscious patient while using an electric skateboard. That recklessness, in addition to other dangerous practices, such as using more sedatives than necessary, could have cost their clients their lives.

On Monday, the doctor was sentenced by the Anchorage Superior Court on more than 40 charges, including extracting teeth without permission from patients, fraud to the medical assistance program (Medicaid), and illegal practice of medicine.

The court heard several testimonies from Lookhart’s victims, such as Veronica Wilhelm, who in 2016 sedated and extracted a tooth while using an electric scooter, in addition, the dentist later sent the video to at least 8 people.

Another patient reported that four teeth were removed without his permission.

The charges against Lookhart were brought in 2017 after a former clinic employee reported that the doctor increased profits by performing more intravenous sedation than necessary, putting the lives of his patients at risk. With this scheme, the dentist, together with her manager Shauna Cranford, billed about 2 million dollars.

When he has served his jail term, Lookhart will not be able to practice medicine for the next 10 years of probation.
