The U.S. administration has warned Ukraine that the war is at a turning point and the Ukrainian military must achieve as much battlefield success as possible while receiving significant Western military aid.
This was reported by the Washington Post, citing unnamed sources.
US officials who visited Kiev in January told Ukrainian authorities that the coming months would be critical.
Despite promises to support Ukraine “as long as it takes”, the US administration believes the latest Western aid package to Kiev offers the best chance of turning the tide of the conflict.
In the future, according to the newspaper’s interlocutors, the situation may not be so favorable, since the Republicans, who now control the House of Representatives, are expected to reduce their support for Ukraine.
It is also unclear whether the supply of weapons to Kiev from Europe will remain at the same level, the newspaper writes.
“As long as it takes” refers to the scale of the conflict. This does not apply to the amount of aid,” one of the interlocutors told the publication.
“We will continue to explain to them that we absolutely cannot do everything for an indefinite period of time,” the newspaper quoted a senior US government official as saying.
