During the meeting, the leaders discussed the issues of a peaceful settlement of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including those related to the situation around the transport corridors in the region, as well as the demarcation of the border between the two countries in accordance with the agreement reached in Prague.“Pachinyan confirmed the commitment of the Armenian side to sign such an agreement, which will truly guarantee long-term peace and stability in the region,” the official statement read on the website of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. At the same time, the Armenian Prime Minister drew attention to the blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan and the resulting humanitarian, environmental and energy crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the meeting as constructive. According to him, Baku has recently received new proposals from the Armenian side and sees progress in Yerevan’s position, but so far they consider them insufficient.”At first glance, there is progress in Armenia’s position, but it is not enough,” Aliyev told Azerbaijani reporters after the meeting. He also suggested setting up checkpoints on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.“I noted that it would be good if Armenia and Azerbaijan set up checkpoints on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border bilaterally. We officially submitted this proposal today. through unofficial channels,” the Azerbaijani leader was quoted as saying by TASS. At the same time, Aliyev suggested that it would take some time to discuss this issue.”If we are talking about the opening of communications, then, of course, checkpoints should be created at both ends of the Zangezur corridor and at the border between the Lachin region and Armenia,” Aliyev stressed.
