Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

“If Putin applauds, what good is it?” Biden criticized China’s peace plan for Ukraine

The plan for resolving the military conflict in Ukraine, which was proposed by China, only benefits Russia. This US President Joe Biden told in an interview with ABC News.

“If (Russian President Vladimir) Putin applauds this (plan), what good is it? I didn’t see anything in the plan that <…> would benefit anyone other than Russia,” the US leader said.Biden also called it "irrational" that the PRC "is going to negotiate the outcome of the war."China has proposed a plan to resolve the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine on Feb. 24, the anniversary of the outbreak of hostilities. The document consists of 12 paragraphs. In this document, China, in particular, proposes to respect the sovereignty of other states, to abandon Cold War-era thinking and the creation of military blocs, as well as to end hostilities and start the negotiation process. Furthermore, Beijing noted that unilateral sanctions and economic pressure cannot solve the emerging crisis.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he does not see China's proposal as a peace plan, Strana reports. “It's not an infrastructure for something. It seems to me that China has shown its thoughts,” he said.“There are points that are clear to me, there are thoughts with which I disagree, the whole world disagrees, but, nevertheless, it is already something”, Zelenskyy said.Adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak stressed that "any peace plan", which implies only a transition to a ceasefire, does not lead to peace, but to the freezing of military conflict. In turn, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said China's plan "could stop at the first point, which is respect for the sovereignty of all nations."The Russian Foreign Ministry is positive appreciated proposals of the People’s Republic of China on the settlement of the military conflict. The Foreign Ministry noted that Moscow appreciates “the Chinese friends’ sincere desire to contribute to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine by peaceful means.”

“We share Beijing’s views. <...> Like our Chinese colleagues, we consider any restrictive measure not authorized by the UN Security Council to be illegitimate. It is a crude instrument of unfair competition and economic warfare,” the Foreign Office said.
