The presentation of the award to Navalny was also criticized by the adviser to the chief of staff of the Ukrainian president Mikhail Podolyak. “If Oscar is outside politics, then how to understand Navalny’s documentary manifesto, where Russian domestic politics overflows? If Oscar is out of (conflict) in Ukraine, then why are you constantly talking about humanism and justice? he tweeted.
The film “Navalny” by American director Daniel Roer received an Oscar in the nomination “Best documentary film”. The world premiere of “Navalny” took place in January 2022 at the Sundance Film Festival, where the tape received the audience award, and in January 2023 it won the award from the British Academy Film Academy (BAFTA).
