“The fire broke out in the Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul in Basmannaya Sloboda. Scaffolding is burning over an area of 10 square meters,” the agency reports.
Earlier it was reported that in this temple, under a layer of paintings and old newspapers, a fresco from the time of Peter I, the founder of this temple, was discovered. The unique painting dates back to the 18th century.
The church itself was built according to the order and manuscript designs of Peter I. Over the long history, it suffered fires, floods, and during the Soviet years it was not used for its intended purpose at all. However, the old paint was retained.
